During his intervention, the responsible of Valenciaport has enumerated some of the initiatives that APV has developed in the last years, such as the creation of Port Community Systems, the Fundación Valenciaport or the impulse of Fund 4.0 to help ideas and projects start ups. In addition, the projects of the new north terminal and the passenger terminal contain a high level of digitalization. But also, it has applied innovation to sustainable projects like Green C Ports for sensorization and intelligent management with the aim of increasing the connectivity of ports with the city and reducing the impacts of port operations in it.

The president of the APV has explained that as a result of this commitment to innovation, the Comité de Transformación Digital apostó por implementing the 5G technology in areas where it can add more value to this technology, such as terminals, or in the development of pilots such as PORTWIN.

Proyecto PORTWIN

This initiative is born from Valenciaport’s bet on digitization and innovation as key elements to maintain its competitiveness. The project, which is co-financed by the Valencian Agency for Innovation, combines cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, Edge Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Radar to digitize the operation of boat docking, providing assistance in real time with highly accurate data from any boat that is aproxima a las instalaciones del Puerto de València.

The solution designed in PORTWIN, based on 5G intelligent radars, contributes to facilitating the docking process, thanks to the communication in real time of the distance, speed and orientation of the ships with respect to the docking dock. This information is obtained through the use of radars, transmitted through 5G technology, processed in the Edge, and represented in an application that, thanks to its graphic interface, allows you to visualize the position and distance of the ship with respect to the pier in tiempo real desde cualquier dispositivo.

Through the use of this application, captains, tugboats, operators and anchors can know the position of the ship with millimeter precision during the entire docking phase, thus allowing a more efficient decision-making process that contributes to optimizing the operation and increasing the efficiency and seguridad en este proceso tan complejo.

In today’s event, the result of the implementation in the Cruceros pier 1 of the north extension of a cap of sensorization of the infrastructure for the monitoring of the assistance process for the docking of ships that will help in making decisions in real time increasing the security of said operation, all based on 5G technology.

The project has been presented by the technological company Fivecomm, which counts as technological partners with Cellnex, A4Radar, Fundación Valenciaport and the APV. In this case, Valenciaport has realized a controlled transfer of the space in the Cruceros pier, the computer facilities at the pier and has provided electrical supply to the pilot, providing assistance from the Department of Digital Transformation and electrical service.
